Scripture
“The devil said to him, ‘If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.’ Jesus answered, ‘It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone.'”
–Luke 4:3-4
Devotion
In this passage, Jesus faces temptation from the devil to turn a stone into bread to satisfy His hunger after fasting for 40 days in the wilderness. Jesus responds by quoting Scripture, highlighting that true life is sustained not only by physical food but also by every word that comes from God. This teaches us to trust in God’s provision and to seek spiritual nourishment through His Word. When we encounter temptations or challenges, we can rely on God’s promises and guidance to sustain us. This is why fasting is crucial—it helps build discipline against worldly distractions. Some of my clearest thoughts and moments of insight come while I am fasting.
What are some things or people you need to learn to live without and start relying more on the Word of God?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help us to trust in Your provision and to seek nourishment from Your Word. When we face temptations, remind us of Your promises and grant us the strength to rely on You. As You go before us in every area of our lives, let us commit to discipline and consistency. Thank You for all You have done and what You are about to do. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.
