Scripture
“When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.”
–Proverbs 11:2
Devotion
Prideful people can’t stand themselves. They are so stubborn and one-sided that they willingly lead themselves to destruction, disgrace, and misery and don’t seem to mind. It doesn’t seem like much of a life worth living if nothing else matters but oneself, so much so that we are willing to die wrong rather than live right. Well, God plainly says in His Word that with humility comes wisdom. Therefore, being prideful must keep one from learning things the correct way or the ability to see others from a heart of compassion and empathy. May we set aside our pride to see past ourselves and see others and gain insight into the meaningful things in life through God’s guidance, like fellowship, love, relationship, companionship, community, and so much more.
Can we let go of pride, acknowledge our need for God’s guidance, and open ourselves to His wisdom? Let us approach life with a humble heart, eager to learn and grow in the profound truth that is God’s.
Prayer
Father, we ask for a humble heart that seeks Your wisdom. Help us let go of pride and rely on Your guidance. Teach us to walk in humility and embrace Your wisdom. May we not see ourselves as the one all be all but You only as the one true, living God who sits high and looks low, willing to guide us every step of the way. Amen.
