Scripture

“The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’”

-Romans 8:15

Devotional

As children of God, we are no longer slaves to fear. The Holy Spirit assures us of our adoption into God’s family, giving us the confidence to call Him “Abba, Father.” This relationship frees us from fear and fills us with love and security. Regardless of your relationship with your earthly Father, you have a Father who is ever present and loves you unconditionally. God is a real good Father! His love is unfailing and endures forever, providing us with a sense of security that we can always rely on. Therefore, we are not abandoned, alone, or unprotected. In times of need and times of joy, cry “Abba”!

How is your relationship with your earthly parents similar and different from today’s passage?

What are some things we need to forgive our earthly parents for to let go of the disappointment and expectations we have set for them that only our Heavenly Father will always provide?

Prayer

Father, thank You for adopting us into Your family. Help us live free from fear, knowing we are Your children. Fill us with Your love and security, and let us always call on You as “Abba, Father.” In Jesus’ name we humbly pray, Amen.
