Scripture

“David also said to Solomon his son, ‘Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you.He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the Lord is finished.”

-1 Chronicles 28:20

David’s words to Solomon encourage us to be diligent and courageous in our tasks. Knowing that God is with us, we can overcome fear and discouragement. Our work, done in His strength, will be fruitful and blessed.

If we backed up a few verses, David told Solomon, “And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever. Consider now, for the Lord has chosen you to build a house as the sanctuary. Be strong and do the work.”

Solomon is told to be strong and courageous while doing the work that God has assigned to him through his father, David. Like Solomon, can we start this week strong and courageous and do the work set before us?

Prayer

Lord, give us the strength and courage to do the work You have set before us. Help us to overcome fear and discouragement by trusting in Your presence and guidance. Give us a clean heart and the right spirit so that our efforts bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, we humbly pray. Amen.
