In times of trouble, it’s easy to be overwhelmed by our own weaknesses and the evil that surrounds us. However, we can take comfort in the fact that God has promised that evil will not always prevail.
In the book of Matthew, Jesus tells a parable about a farmer who plants good wheat, but an enemy comes along and plants weeds amongst the wheat. When the farmer’s servants ask about the weeds, the farmer instructs them to let both the wheat and weeds grow together until the harvest. At that time, the weeds will be gathered and burned while the wheat will be brought into the barn.
Jesus explains that the farmer represents the Son of Man, the field represents the world, the good seed represents the people of the kingdom, and the weeds represent the people of the evil one. The enemy is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the servants who gather the harvest are the angels.
Scripture
“Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears, let them hear.”
Matthew 13:43
Prayer
Dear Lord, I pray that today we take the time to examine our hearts and be encouraged by your promise to remove evil from our midst. May you give us the strength and wisdom to be like wheat and not weeds when everything is said and done. May we see and experience the goodness of the Lord and dwell with Him forever. I humbly pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
