Just say no…to your emotions.

Welcome,

After the previous post, “Hit Reset“, I came across a sermon series by Darius Daniels, who spoke about Emotional Sobriety, and it basically gave words to the feelings that we all experience in this walk called Life. When we think of being sober, we automatically think about alcohol. However, how many of us are emotionally drunk? So high off the emotion that we can no longer think rationally, or within reason, and tend to make the situation worse due to our actions based on our emotions.

When we allow ourselves to get so angry, say or do things that are not good, and may even warrant charges being filed, sigh, it’s no longer about the action that caused you to be angry but now it’s about the reaction that trumps the action. Here’s an example, they cheated on you, so you stab them. The punishment doesn’t fit the crime! Your emotions are saying they deserve it, but the law says you are going to jail! You don’t assault anyone because they cheated on you, you break up with them if you’re unwilling to stay in the relationship and work things out. In emotional drunkenness, we seek ways to make someone hurt worse than we hurt, but in reality, we are only hurting ourselves more.

Going to scripture, 1 Peter 5:8 states,

Be alert and sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Romans 12:19 states,

Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written; “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.

Nahum 1:3 states,

The Lord is slow to anger but great in power; the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished. His way is in the whirlwind and the storm, and clouds are the dust of his feet.

You “feeling” emotional is one thing, but “acting” out on that emotion is a whole other story. So, I encourage you to tap into Darius Daniels series on YouTube. It has blessed me and I pray that it truly blesses you!
