“Any day above ground is a good day. Before you complain about anything, be thankful for your life and the things that are still going well.” – Germany Kent (goodreads.com)

Welcome

Let’s get right to it! We all experience them- a bad day. How do we handle our not so good days? As much as we’d love to just throw the whole day away, we can’t, and sometimes we don’t have to. So let me share some personal hacks of mine that allows me to reset emotionally.

First, I like to separate myself from my surroundings.

Second, I may go to a quiet place, take a walk in nature, or sit down to do such things as pray, brain dump, and be grateful.

Pray

We tend to be our biggest critic, however prayer allows us to be our biggest cheerleader. Remember, David also encouraged himself in the Lord!

I also allow a moment of silence during prayer to listen and think.  I know Christians say, “God told me xyz” and we’re like “how?”. My personal experience has simply being present and seeking God on a matter. Sometimes the solution comes to me in a form that I don’t always agree with and may even cause discomfort, however I still trust God. Therefore, it must be God! Sigh.

Brain Dump

Journaling is just something I love to do, however on a bad day I like to brain dump. I consider brain dumping as writing every thought you’re experiencing and getting it out of your head. I don’t necessarily have to write it in my journal because I don’t carry it around 24/7. I may use hashtags because I’m not in a mood to write full sentences, so my brain dump session may consist of something like:

#sad #whyyy #deathishard #moneyneededforxyz #jobstressful #notfeelingmyshoestoday #ughmyhair #kidswild #shopkidshoes #dinnersforweek #groceries #praymore #eatbetter #pizzatonight #chairbroke #uploadvideos #neednap

I may get very petty with my hashtags, or deep, because it’s everything that I am feeling/experiencing that had me in a rut.

Be Grateful

After talking myself off the ledge, I allow gratitude to bring me back to a leveled place. I think about everything I’m grateful for and remind myself of why I do what I do and what I can do to make “whatever it is” I’m doing better. For example, this blog, my job, and my overall relationships with others.

Conclusion

So, what do you do to help reset when you’re having a not so good day? Hopefully, this post will give you the mindset to identify and reset on the not so good days. We all go through the motions and need a do over that’s not possible. May we make every day count!
